Brief Biography

Nanci Rose-Ritter is
a founding member, since 1971, of the Wisdom's Goldenrod Center for Philosophic Studies on Seneca Lake, and started the weekly Buddhism and Psychology class which she has led for several years. In 1990, an independent research paper on the Sacred Dances of Tibet was accepted by the Society of Dance History Scholars, and presented at the Fifth International Dance Conference in Hong Kong, prompting her to visit Dharamsala, India for six months to continue her research. There, Nanci met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama on several occasions, who wrote the foreword to her book on the Tibetan exile community, Living Tibet: The Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, co-authored with photographer Bill Warren (Snow Lion Publications; Ithaca, NY; 1995). In 1996, she returned to India again to meet with the Dalai Lama and was able to spend intensive time studying with her personal teacher, His Eminence Khamtrul Rinpoche.

Nanci Rose is a graduate of Michigan's world-renouned Interlochen Arts Academy, and a graduate of Ithaca College, NY with a BA in Therapeutic Dance. Now a New York State addictions counselor and a certified Biyun medical QiGong teacher, Nanci incorporates a wide range of techniques, including reflective journal writing and other writing techniques, into her workshops on meditation and spirituality. In addition, Nanci has been writing poetry throughout her life with numerous readings and awards.

Nanci worked for seven years coordinating major programming for Cornell University's substance abuse prevention services for students, and is currently the Counseling Coordinator and primary counselor for Hobart and William Smith Colleges' alcohol and other drug programs office. She also serves on the board of directors for the Women's Interfaith Institute of the Finger Lakes where she started and leads the monthly Interfaith Open Discussion Group. Nanci Rose speaks regularly on Buddhism, her travels to India and Nepal, and topics related to spiritual development. She leads retreats and workshops in diverse settings for groups with identified interests.
